reflection on website - edci 5825

My website: http://larsenclassroom.weebly.com
What is your reaction to the entire web development process? Please describe any positive and negative reactions.

The web development process went very smoothly. Weebly really assisted me in making a website - I found the site to be very user-friendly. My only difficulty was the tabs on the top of my website kept moving around; it took me a while to determine that could arrange them the way I wanted. I liked the different layouts that you could use, and how there was a variety of ways you could arranges pictures, text, and other media.

What was involved in the process of developing your site? What obstacles did you encounter? How did you overcome those obstacles? What successes did you encounter?
I first set up a few pages I thought my website needed, such as a home page, homework page, and contact information. I was able to put in links that I previously found for another assignment, so hopefully this website is now a good resource for my English students. I enjoyed the opportunity to create a website and brainstorm ideas for my website. I had some problems with the font not showing up on the home page because it was white, but I rearranged it so it would show up against a darker background. As I mentioned previously, I had problems arranging the tabs on my website but I was able to ask to figure out that you were supposed to drag them to rearrange them. I was successful in creating the individual pages; I had many ideas of what to put on my website.

Will you continue to build on/update this site after this course ends? Why/Why not? Please explain.

I might continue to use the website, since it would be easy for students to access if they had to look up the homework or see what they needed to know for their courses. The website provides them with a place to look for information without having to contact the teacher every time. I would have to adapt the website depending on what courses I was taking. I do think I would use it because it a tool students could use to post ideas and ask questions, as well as look up the homework.

What errors/issues did you find when you tested your web site for 508 compliance? Based on those errors/issues, what changes would you make to your site?

One of the errors I found was that there was a low contrast between the text and the background. This could pose a problem to people who have bad vision or color blindness. I could improve the text contrast, perhaps by making the background white and the text a dark color like navy blue or black. Here are my results for the 508 compliance: http://pagecheck.erigami.com/TruwexOnline/page_issues.aspx?tid=6045&pid=547373763&id=6045#Accessibility
